İki kor

Bir kor taniyiram, gözü korsa da,

                        özü kor deyil.

Bəzən qəm odunda qovrulursa da,

Ağlına, hissinə o nankor deyil.

Gecəli-gündüzlü yazır, oxuyur.

Ağlının gözüylə o görür, duyur.

Ancaq... biri də var...kor deyilsə də,

                         gözü görməyir.

Dostu göz önündə öldürülsə də,

                           görmədim deyir...

Yaxşıya ortaqdır,

yamanı görmür,

O, saata baxır,

zamanı görmür.

Fikrini, hissini ucadan deməz,

Bəzən gördüyünü görmək istəməz.

Gözləri görməyən kor deyil hələ,

Görmək istəməyən kordur, deyərdim.

Belə müqəvvaya, belə cahilə

Həyatın özü də gordur deyərdim.

Two blind men

Translated by Shahla Naghiyeva

and Alison Mandaville

 I know two blind men—

One is blind in his eyes

But not in his being.

He controls his mind, his feelings.

He reads and writes

All day and night.

He sees through the eyes of the brain

Intelligent and bright.

Another man, he has excellent eyesight

But he is blind mentally.

Be the friend killed in his presence

He will not see,

Or pretends to be

Blind physically.

Sharing in good things, missing all evils,

Watching the clock, he never sees

What time it is.

Never says

what he thinks, aloud.

What he has seen

He sometime misses.

Blind is not

One who has no eyesight.

Blind is choosing not to see.

To this manikin, this naive one,

There is no difference

between life and the grave .
